Gothenburg: “We’re not Stockholm!”

We’ve been in Gothenburg, Sweden this past week which is a pretty meh city and hasn’t had me too inspired to write about it.

They’re really trying hard to get out of the shadow of Stockholm and are more than eager to tell you over and over how great their city is and how great their restaurants are. Unfortunately for them, they’ve kind of gone highend without developing any soul – there’s some michelin starred restaurants here, but there’s no fine casual scene… clubs are of the pretentious table service variety… and overall, the city just feels very… bland.

I mean, to put it in perspective it’s still *way* better than the suburban US cities we were in earlier this year, and the hotel’s really nice (yay to free beer in the sauna!), and after looking under a lot of rocks did manage to find some spirit in the old part of town and spent a fantatstic afternoon thriftshopping w/ C… And there was a bit of a shoppingwank at my favorite denim company’s flagship store

But… yeah…
I just realized the only good thing I have to say about this place is that the shopping was good.

The week w/ chris has been nice though, and I guess that it’s been a good week to just catch up on work, hit the gym, lay low, and catch up on sleep.

Flying home tomorrow for a couple weeks, and though my week in Copenhagen was eternally dreamy, I’m not gonna miss or be eager to come back to Gothenburg.

And to end this note and leg of the trippinz, I’d just like to take a moment to beam on a proud uncle-y note, and welcome to this world my new niece who was born last night (congrats T&J!)
